What is that mean in first place - many in the web hosting industry are trying various methods to reach their goals - customer attraction and growth. Which is fine but the ways and strategies they are using are not fair - for the industry and for their clients.

We all know a lot of companies have parallel directories, blogs, review sites and others to link to their main business or to attract more customers and visitors. Most of those are, lets not say fake but kind of misleading as they recommend specific services or hosting providers.

Of course everybody is free to make its own market strategy to make more profit but in a long term, this is nothing more but harmful to the web hosting industry. If you have the resource to do that it will be helpful but still not showing respect to your customers or rivals.

Other type of working closely with “different” hosting companies is another method if ruling and trying to gain monopoly over the others. There are a lot of examples on how big hosts are “opening” new web hosting sites that offer services similar to their own or a little bit different. They may also use it as comparing website features or prices. The marketing of such sites is separate and nothing shows that they are owned by same company - except when you deal with them and see that they are all the same - using the same hosting facilities, same infrastructure, same support and technical staff etc.

At least this is not fair to the people who seek for reasonable and reliable hosting services. There are lots of bad or negative reviews on such websites (apart from the fake ones) and the whole point of this is that such saturated market as the hosting one is, should not afford to have those offerings. Good example of what you need to do if you are “big gun” is to be part of the increasing number of mergers and acquisitions in the web service industry. This both shows potential and good management. Then you can use the acquired brand as separate business but still part of your group.

These little gadgets has emerged to be one of the most popular and interesting items and becoming an essential part of the Web 2.0.

In the past years the widgets have been used for a lot of the new stuff the companies are promoting. They display news, blog posts, interesting information and even ads. Every widget owner can customize it so it can show the information the user wants to stay updated with.

You can choose from 2 types of widgets, the one is a web variant and it can be show on every website to display specific information related to the website or to give additional information to the visitors or to the webmaster. The other is a desktop widget and these are even more popular as you can have almost everything covering your interests on your desktop.

The software makers started recently to add variety or colorful, different size and informative desktop widgets. Windows Vista maker, Microsoft also added a lot of widgets with the latest version of its OS.

Now, it has been announced by Google that the company will start offering 2 version of its widgets, a web and desktop one. The new Google widgets will be connected to all the search engine’s tools and applications.

But the most important thing is that the company will give the opportunity to the advertisers to publish their ads directly on the computer of the internet user and to more precise, the advertisers will now have the option to direct their ads and choose from different target groups.

This is very crucial for the development of the marketing strategies and the advertising methods the companies will use in the future. From one side, the ads will go directly to their audiences and from other this price paid will be more effective. This will also help the advertisers to brand their products and services easily.

Consumer’s point of view

People will stop seeing unwanted ads and suddenly appearing banners or additional browsers (of course, its not 100% sure this will happen). The ads will not be anymore that annoying as you will see, as potential customer, the ads you probably need and may be tempted to buy.

I think that this can even change the internet users mind and attitude about the ads at all. If you see only what you want to see, then its OK and it will not bother you. It can have and indirect impact on the more conventional advertising methods, but only if the ads can be targeted precisely and reach the correct groups.

Of course, this have and other side - the non targeted ads in present days are lead to miscellaneous click and visits to websites we don’t like. This will decrease those clicks and visits and will also decrease the money the companies are paying to Google for Adwords or to all the others advertising programs out there.

Well, thats only my modest theory :)!
